They were not conquered until the 2nd. century B.C. by the Romans, who were responsible of bringing the first vines from the East. The Reconquest opened borders to new cultures and let the vine culture to extend under the influence of the monastic orders.

When the phylloxera plague spread across France, the wines produced in Cigales arrived to Burdeaux, via the pass of Pasajes to replace the french wines, thereby achieving an extraordinary recognition.

The opening up of commercial channels through the northern seaports, made possible the spread of the wine of Cigales to new markets such as Cantabria and Pais Vasco, becoming regular customers of our wines.

A handful of viticulturists of the area, aware of having a product of a unique quality and sought-after at every wine market, joined efforts to set up in 1957 Bodega Cooperativa de Cigales, thereby creating one of the most significant wineries in Castilla y Leon.
